Scope of Practice

I consider it important to provide transparency regarding services that fall outside of my scope of practice.

  • I focus on diagnostic evaluations, medical management, and care coordination. I do not perform in-office procedures. You will be referred to a trusted community partner when procedures are necessary.

  • There are no guarantees in medicine. The human body is fascinating and incredible, but alas, sometimes unpredictable. All treatments have potential risks. To justify the risks, they must be outweighed by the potential benefits. If I feel the risks of a treatment outweigh the potential benefits, I will not offer or continue the treatment.

  • I avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics to protect your microbiome and protect you from antibiotic-resistant infections.

  • I do not prescribe medications with addictive potential for long term use (except for end-of-life care). Examples of such medications are benzodiazepines (Xanax, Ativan, Clonazepam) for anxiety, opioids (Norco, hydrocodone, oxycodone, Percocet, Dilaudid) for pain, stimulants (Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, Dexadrine) for ADHD, and some muscle relaxants (Soma). I do prescribe these medicines, when necessary, for short-term use (typically a 1 week duration). If you are currently dependent on one of these substances and would like to wean off, I will help you do so in a safe and gradual manner.

  • I do not prescribe testosterone replacement therapy. Interested patients will be referred to community partners.

  • I do not perform sensitive examinations (such as breast, genital, or rectal exams) in this setting. When a sensitive exam is necessary, you will be referred to a trusted community partner where the necessary support staff are present.

  • To ensure the highest quality of care, telemedicine is limited to no more than 20% of visits.

  • I am unable to accept new patients seeking workers’ compensation or disability evaluations.

Please also note that my practice does not provide urgent care, emergency services, hospitalization, or after-hours on-call coverage.
